Birds swirl across the sky as the summer sun sets off Rock Harbor in Orleans on Cape Cod Bay. The tree is one of several marking the channel for fishing boats.

I've been an amateur photographer for more than 40 years. A native of New York City and resident of Hampden, Massachusetts, I began a career as a reporter and editor at The Daily News in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1973 and retired in 2009 after serving as city editor of The Republican for 10 years. I have a bachelor's degree in communication arts from Fordham University and a master's degree in business from Western New England College. Cape Cod, Nantucket Sound, the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Cod Bay are among my favorite subjects. I particularly enjoy sunsets on the Cape and capturing them in a photo.
